Curing Meralgia Paresthetica How to Recover from Meralgia Pain Pain Management for Pain Sufferers Book 1 edition by Godfree Roberts EdD Professional Technical eBooks

This book is the only organized source of information available that I've been able to find about meralgia paresthetica, but you could probably find everything included somewhere else on the internet. That said, there's not much known about the condition so I think this was a good effort to create a better resource than what's currently out there now - always want to learn more though! I do wish that there had been a little less medical jargon, or at least better simple explanations, and more clear diagrams.

When I reviewed this book several months ago I gave it 4 stars because I thought it was a helpful resource but could use improvement - most everything I had already read elsewhere though not all in one spot. I was curious to see if the new edition was an improvement.

The short answer is ‘yes’.

The author has almost doubled the length of the book and more than doubled its depth. It’s now a well-rounded, well-written discussion and explanation of every imaginable aspect of meralgia. Better yet, it now has considerable information and assistance that I’ve never seen anywhere else. Much of the new information comes from readers of the first edition. I noticed that the author put his personal email address at the end of each chapter of the first edition and invited readers’ stories, suggestions and criticisms. Readers’ response was obviously strong, as you’d expect from people suffering from a painful affliction that can last years: they offered suggestions on drug cocktails for meralgia sufferers who can’t handle NSAIDs, on drugs and pregnancy, on surgery and ablation and on pretty much everything to do with meralgia symptoms. I wish all how-to authors would make it as easy to contact them. And I hope that meralgia sufferers will continue to contribute their experience to this book. Meralgia is precisely the kind of affliction that crowdsourcing can help with, given that it’s so variable that you need to try lots of strategies to get relief.

There are certainly plenty of strategies in this edition. A pharmaceuticals chapter improved by readers’ thoughtful input. The Natural Treatments chapter is twice as long and, IMHO, the best compendium of natural strategies on the subject. The Pregnancy chapter contains some straight talking by pregnant-with-meralgia women that is right on. The all new Marijuana chapter is an eye-opener; I had no idea that marijuana is specifically included in U.S. state legislation as being eligible for marijuana prescriptions. Good news for meralgia sufferers! There are new chapters on Weight Loss, Chinese Traditional Medicine (with meralgia paresthetica in Chinese), Essential Oils, Pilates, Inversion Tables, Balance Boards and...Leeches. Yes, the humble leech has been credited with relieving meralgia symptoms!

Finally, there’s the Survey chapter that lists the things that readers found most useful in order of effectiveness. Anyone who signs up for the newsletter at the website http://curingmeralgiaparesthetica.com is included in the survey (which will, I believe, be annual). I urge every meralgia sufferer to sign up and participate. Over 700 people participated last year and the more of us who have input the more helpful our group experience and opinions will be for the millions of people who get meralgia every year.

Curing Meralgia Paresthetica How to Recover from Meralgia Pain Pain Management for Pain Sufferers Book 1 edition by Godfree Roberts EdD Professional Technical eBooks Reviews

A good single collection of information, if nothing new. There's no 'cure' per se... But maybe provides a couple more things to try that maybe you haven't already, and may arm you with more specific language to use with your healthcare professional(s)
Brings everything you could have found on the internet together in one place. This is good as not much is known about this condition. I'd say the title is a bit missleading as far as the "curing part". Lots of exercises that are supposed to help. Good luck to you.
I was extremely grateful to receive this book. I believe following the advice about stretching reduced the length of time I was in the acute stage. Dr. Roberts included practical, easy-to-follow suggestions that enabled me to return to full-time work sooner than anticipated. My physician was impressed with my recovery. He now has a copy of the book on hand in order to encourage fellow sufferers to learn how to help their recovery process.
It's a great book, because it is very comprehensive, with all the methods of treatment included. However, when I went to the doctor (and she's a very good one), she said that it can go away all by itself, on its own, even if it'll take some time. And I am noticing that, it's gotten much better, without any drugs or physical therapy. I do walk a lot every day.
I was so happy to find this book as there is a dearth of information about this problem. I have suffered for almost 2 years with meralgia paraesthetica and this book has been the most helpful resource on management and pain relief. I have also contacted the author and he responded to my question.
I hope other sufferers are able to find and use this resource. I would reccomend it to anyone with M.P.
This book provides a lot of great information on a subject that doctors know very little about. There are various exercises and simple procedures to try. With a condition like this you have to spend a little time to figure out what is right for you - and this book will help you do that..The foam roller and acupuncture - as suggested in the book - works great for me. I highly recommend this book - it really helps!
This is definitely a good book to have for people that have been recently diagnosed. Although of course most of the information is available on the internet, when you have a pervasive condition you don't want to troll the internet every time you are looking for an answer. I knew a lot of this information from practice, but to be quite frank, I think a lot of patients with any illness such as this are looking for validation. No, I'm not going crazy, yes putting a pillow between my knees does help. My nerve damage occurred after a DaVinci surgery to remove a kidney, which occurred some time ago. Most of this book is focused on the recently-diagnosed; hopefully short-term conditions. My case is a little different being chronic in nature at this point, but I still found some helpful ideas. When you have a pervasive illness, a community of like-minded individuals is always helpful and comforting.
